Remimazolam (Byfavo), a new benzodiazepine, will compete with midazolam and propofol for use in procedural sedation.

This type of sedation provides decreased consciousness to perform procedures (colonoscopy, etc) without the need to intubate.

Remimazolam is given as an IV push for sedation induction and maintenance in adults undergoing procedures lasting 30 minutes or less.
